ABSTRACT This pre-experimental study utilized a one group pretest-posttest design. The study aimed to investigate the effect of stabilization back exercise promotion program on exercise behaviors and back muscle endurance among farmers. This study was conducted from October to December 2014. Multi-stage sampling was used to recruit farmers residing in Chainat Province. One village was randomly assigned as experimental group. The 35 samples were purposively selected based on the inclusion criteria. The samples received the stabilization back exercise promotion program based on self-efficacy theory throughout the duration of 8 weeks. Data were collected by using The Back Exercise Behaviors Questionnaire and the Prone Double Straight-leg Raise Test at baseline and after completion of the program. Alpha coefficient and test-retest method were applied to validate the quality of the research instrument and reported the reliability ranging from .71 and .90. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Paired t-test. The results of this study revealed that the mean score of back exercise behaviors and back muscle endurance after intervention were significantly higher than pre-intervention (p<.01). One-hundred percent of the experimental group yielded higher back muscle endurance. Nevertheless, it was found that 11.42% of the female group with excess Body Mass Index had a slightly higher or a very little back muscle endurance. The results from this study indicate that the stabilization back exercise promotion program can enhance back exercise behaviors and back muscle endurance of Thai farmers. Therefore, nurses and health care personnel can use this program as a guide for effectively preventing low back pain (LBP) among farmers. However, the female farmers with the excess BMI disclosed some points to be considered and exercise movements should be carefully selected and practiced regularly. Further research should be long-term followed up and added control group. In addition, the sample should be systematically random and also controlled other related-confounders. Downloads
