ไม่เพียงแค่ความผิดหวังของผู้ใช้งานที่ได้โมเด็ม Intel เนื่องจากมันไม่สามารถใช้กับเครือข่าย CDMA จำนวนมาก (แต่ไม่ต้องห่วงเพราะเมืองไทยไม่มีเครือข่ายแบบนั้น) นอกจากนี้ยังมีการทดสอบเรื่องประสิทธิภาพการรับสัญญาณอีกด้วย

การทดสอบข้อมูลเชิงลึกครั้งนี้ใช้ iPhone 7 Plus จำนวนสองเครื่องที่มีโมเด็มแตกต่างกัน (Intel และ Qualcomm) เพื่อวัดประสิทธิภาพ LTE เริ่มจากสัญญาณที่ค่อนข้างแรง -85dBm ในย่าน 12, 4 และ 7 (ความถี่ 1700, 2600 และ 700 MHz) พบว่าประสิทธิภาพไม่ค่อยแตกต่างกันนัก

ตรงกันข้ามถ้าหากในสภาวะ “สัญญาณค่อนข้างอ่อน” พบว่าประสิทธิภาพของโมเด็ม Intel รับสัญญาณได้แย่กว่าประมาณ 30% สรุปได้ว่าถ้าหากพื้นที่คุณสัญญาณค่อนข้างแย่ แนะนำเป็นโมเด็ม Qualcomm จะสามารถใช้งานได้ดีกว่า แต่ถ้าสัญญาณดีหรืออยู่ใจกลางเมืองจะแทบไม่มีความแตกต่าง

ข่าวร้ายก็คือรุ่นที่ขายในบ้านเราเป็นโมเด็ม Intel นั่นเอง ส่วนใครอยากได้ Qualcomm คงต้องไปซื้อที่อเมริกา (Verizon และ Sprint)

ข่าวปลอบใจก็คือประเทศไทยเราใช้ LTE ในย่าน 8, 3 และ 1 (ความถี่ 900, 1800 และ 2100 MHz) ซึ่งอาจให้ผลลัพธ์ที่แตกต่างจากผลทดสอบด้านบน แต่ถึงอย่างไรส่วนตัวผู้เขียนเองมีความเชื่อว่า Apple คงพิจารณาแล้วว่าไม่มีผลแตกต่างกันมาก รวมถึงผู้ให้บริการเครือข่ายในไทยคงปรับแต่งและเพิ่มเสาส่งอย่างเต็มที่ เพื่อประสิทธิภาพที่ดีของผู้ใช้งาน เว้นแต่ว่าบ้านคุณอยู่พื้นที่ห่างไกลมากจริง ๆ อาจพอเห็นความแตกต่าง

วิธีดูว่าเราได้โมเด็มอะไร

สามารถดูได้จากด้านหลังเครื่อง หรือสามารถเข้าไปดูได้ที่ Settings > General > About > Legel > Regulatory แล้วดูจากเลขด้านบนสุด โดยรุ่น Qualcomm MDM9645M ได้แก่โมเดล A1660 และ A1661 ส่วนรุ่น Intel XMM7360 ได้แก่โมเดล A1778 และ A1784

แต่ถึงอย่างไรโมเด็ม Intel ก็ยังมีประสิทธิภาพใกล้เคียงกับโมเด็มใน iPhone 6s ซึ่งหมายความว่าถ้าหากคุณใช้รุ่นเก่าแล้วไม่มีปัญหาเรื่องสัญญาณ ก็ไม่จำเป็นต้องซีเรียสกับผลทดสอบ
