เป็นกระบวนการทดสอบชิ้นงานแบบไม่ทำลายชิ้นงาน แบบใช้การสารแทรกซึมถือเป็นวิธีที่นิยมใช้มากที่สุดวิธีหนึ่ง เพราะง่ายรวดเร็วในการตรวจสอบและถือว่าเป็นวิธีที่ประหยัดที่สุดด้วยวิธีหนึ่ง
1. น้ำยาทำความสะอาดพื้นผิว (Remover หรือ Cleaner)
2. น้ำยาแทรกซึม (Penetrant)
3. น้ำยาเร่งปฏิกิริยา (Developer)
วิธีใช้งานและหลักการทำงานของชุดน้ำยาทดสอบแนวเชื่อม
1. เริ่มจากเตรียมชิ้นงานที่ต้องการทดสอบ มาทำความสะอาดพื้นผิว ในส่วนของพื้นที่ที่ต้องการตรวจสอบด้วย น้ำยาทำความสะอาดพื้นผิวหรือ (Remover)
2. หลังจากทำความสะอาดพื้นผิวเป็นที่เรียบร้อยแล้ว นำน้ำยาแทรกซึม (Penetrant) พ่นลงพื้นผิวที่ต้องการทดสอบ แล้วทิ้งไว้สักครู่ประมาณ 5-10 นาที เพื่อให้น้ำยาทำการแทรกซึมลงพื้นผิวที่ต้องการทดสอบ
3. จากนำน้ำยาทำความสะอาด (Remover) ฉีดพ่นลงบนผ้าแล้วนำมาเช็คทำความสะอาดพื้นผิวชิ้นงานอีกครั้ง
4. ขั้นตอนต่อไป ให้พ่นน้ำยาทำปฏิกิริยา (Developer) ทิ้งไว้สักครู่ประมาณ 10 นาทีเพื่อทำปฏิกิริยากับน้ำยาแทรกซึม (Penetrant)
5. ในกรณีที่แนวเชื่อมมีการแตกร้าว น้ำยาเร่งปฏิกิริยาจะมีการทำปฏิกิริยา โดยดึงน้ำยาแทรกซึมที่มีการซึมลงไปในแนวเชื่อมที่ทำในขั้นตอนที่ 2 ออกมา โดยจะแสดงผลให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจน
6. ในกรณีที่แนวเชื่อมไม่มีการแตกร้าว น้ำยาจะไม่มีการทำปฏิกิริยาใดๆ และจะไม่มีการแสดงผลให้เห็น
7. ขั้นตอนสุดท้าย พ่นน้ำยาทำความสะอาดและทำความสะอาดแนวเชื่อมที่ได้ทดสอบให้สะอาดก่อนการนำไปใช้งานต่อ
